Avoiding the Easter Binge

With Easter just around the corner I thought I would get this article out in an attempt to lessen the brunt of Easter on your waistline!

 

For years we have associated Easter with the deliciousness wrapped in coloured foil that is chocolate, but is this really what it is all about? Or is this just a fantastic marketing scheme by the company’s who sell the products?

 

Long weekends and holidays are all about good times with friends and family, and over the years we begin to associate certain feelings with things like food and alcohol that we may have been having during those occasions.

 

Our brains will lead us to anything that relates to a certain feeling we are searching for. For example, if we are searching for good or happy feelings (subconsciously or consciously) your brain will search for anything that it has pre recorded from previous experiences; like concerts, friends, sports games, alcohol, Christmas or certain foods like cakes at birthdays, or the cookies your Mum gave you as a child when you came home from school.

 

So this Easter when you feel like you NEED chocolate, ask yourself, do I really need it or am I just searching for a certain feeling that I have previously associated to this particular food or occasion.

 

And if you decide not to have any sweets this Easter, try not to see it as a sacrifice or like you’re taking something away from yourself, rather see it as an addition or a step closer towards goals. Associating negative thoughts towards cutting out a certain food in your diet will only end in disaster. See it as you projecting yourself forward on your health and fitness mission.

 

Now for anyone who wants a treat without the guilt I have a great recipe for you:

 

Nutella Protein Balls

 

 

Ingredients

  • 3 scoops of Vanilla Casein Protein powder

  • 1 Tbsp of Nutella

  • 1 Tbsp Maple syrup

  • 1 Tbsp desiccated coconut

  • 1 Tbsp water

Method

Mix all ingredients together until it creates a soft dough consistency. Roll into 14 balls and place in fridge for 1hr.

 

Nutrition per ball
55 Calories, 4g Carbs, 2g Fat, 5g Protein

 

You can substitute Nutella with 1 tsp of Hazelnut spread and 1 Tsp of cocoa powder for a healthier option.
