6 Keys to Being Your Best Self

We all want to improve on some level, we all want to change something whether it be physically, emotionally, financially or with your relationships. There's many principles the most successful people live by. We have picked out 6 keys we believe that if implemented will ensure you are hitting you goals and living at your best self!

  1. Self acceptance = Be honest OK, this may sound simple, but every choice you have made up to this point has led you to be in the exact spot you are in today. No ifs, no buts. You have made choices, and from those choices, these are the results. Accept it. If you’re not happy with where you are, don’t blame anyone else, be honest, and then make a plan on how you are going to change it. Of course, on the other side of the coin, if you are absolutely thrilled with everything at the moment – top work!! You keep it going!

  2. Make correct decisions And whilst your being honest with yourself, be honest with others, and make those decisions, that, though they may make you uncomfortable, are the right ones to make. This can be disagreeing with boss or turning down Friday night drinks, make decisions that are right for you. You feel less remorse and certainly sleep a lot easier knowing, that, for you, you made the right call.

  3. Train with a purpose You’ve made it to the gym? Congrats!! You’ve smashed out 4 boot camps this week – kudos!! But what now? To what end? Without a goal, how do you know when you’ve succeeded? What’s going to be your motivation to keep going? Now this could be anything: shift those unwanted pounds, squeeze into those jeans, get massive guns for the ladies/men, get a bigger butt – who cares!! If it’s measurable and attainable, note it down, share it with a friend, or with the world on Facebook, and make yourself accountable. You’ll be surprised how much impetus having a purpose to train can give you.

  4. Hang out with people who inspire you The crowd you hang out with influences the way you think, and your actions. For twenty years I hung around with friends whose idea of exercise was getting from the pub to the kebab shop in the quickest possible time. Don’t get me wrong, I love those little blighters, but they were seriously not conducive to my health. Within the Fit shop there are plenty of people who have transformed their lives through making healthy choices, sacrificing a great deal and are now in a more positive place because of it. Ask them how they did it? What tips can they give? Maybe if you ask really nicely, they’ll even let you train with them. I’ll repeat what I said earlier, the crowd you hang out with influences the way you think, and your actions. Maybe you need to find a better crowd?

  5. Reduce stress The bills won’t stop coming, there will never be more hours in the day, and your career and family responsibilities will always be demanding. But you have more control than you might think. In fact, the simple realisation that you’re in control of your life is the foundation of stress management. Managing stress is all about taking charge: of your thoughts, emotions, schedule, and the way you deal with problems. Identify the true sources of your stresses, your habits, excuses, and attitudes. Recognise how you currently deal with them, and then find healthier ways to cope.

  6. Quality sleep Everyone needs to sleep, and a good night’s sleep is integral to our health, as our body needs it to recover, replenish so we can start the next day afresh and raring to go. Interrupted sleep can seriously affect our moods, as well as our ability to work to the best of our ability, be it in the office or in the gym. As highlighted by the sleep foundation, the bedroom is for rest. Turn off those devices, keep the light low, read, doze. Or, as Winnie the Pooh puts it: Indulge in a bear nap every once in a while — it takes a lot of energy to be you!
